What are GIS easy Solar Maps?
With GIS easy Solar Maps you can view and explore the solar radiation potential in a region of interest. Use is easy and intuitive. The maps are viewed with an "easy GIS", a geographic information system (GIS) that is particularly easy to use. Anyone new to GIS or just getting started can look at solar maps without prior GIS knowledge.
What software do I need to use GIS easy Solar Maps?
GIS easy Solar Maps can be used in connection with freely available GIS software. It's intended for users who have never worked with GIS software before and simply want to look at solar maps without buying an entire GIS license. Upon delivery you'll receive instructions on how to install the free GIS viewer.
What makes GIS easy Maps different from normal GIS Maps?
The content and quality of solar data is the same, both for GIS easy and normal GIS Solar Maps. The difference lies only in the associated GIS program and its functionality. With GIS easy, you have access to important key features such as interactive map viewing, zoom-in, creation of print templates, etc. GIS easy does also offer basic tools for spatial orientation - with the overlay of cities and country borderlines. However, functionality is restricted to the GIS easy solar layer. It's not possible to merge GIS easy Solar Maps with your own set of geographic information. A full GIS license is still required for sophisticated project development. Only a full GIS program will allow you to perform complex and multi-dimensional geographic analyses involving other variables besides solar radiation.
What services do I get with GIS easy Solar Maps?
GIS easy Solar Maps are provided as maps of direct normal (DNI) or global horizontal (GHI) irradiance - depending on the type of solar technology employed. The raster variable displayed in the map is the long-term annual average of solar irradiance in kWh / m². The raster resolution is 1 km². The region of interest can be specified by the customer in terms of coordinates or state and provincial boundaries. GIS easy Maps are delivered together with instructions offering guidance on every step of successfully working with solar maps: from the installation of GIS freeware to utilizing GIS functionality.
Are there additional services offered?
Customized maps such as monthly solar maps or "worst case" maps of minimum solar exposure during a 5 or 10 year period can be prepared on request.
